One is the Loneliest Number

Maybe it’s just beginning-of-the-semester blues, but I’ve been super lonely lately. I had the unfortunate realization this weekend that I have a grand total of two friends, Dumples and Circle. If I don’t count blood relatives, that brings it down to one. Now, I can imagine one or two people reading this that will insist that they indeed are my friend and that is probably true but if I want to hang out with someone, go shopping, watch a movie, whatever, there are 2 people I call. I’ve tried my best this first week back in Provo to make friends and meet people but getting to know someone takes so much time. And honestly, I don’t know how to make friends. I’m terrified of taking the initiative to introduce myself and the like because I don’t want to force myself on other people. How do you make that leap from knowing someone’s name to being their friend?
If nothing else, being a hermit should make for pretty good grades this semester. Theoretically…

Wow! We must be related. I am not great at making friends either. I attributed it to living in a very small town my whole life and having the same friends from kingergarten through high school. I never really had to practice making new friends growing up. When I went to BYU, it was so hard! I ended up being great friends with a few of my roommates. Hang in there Jesslyn!!!
